He has used his wealth and influence to support a wide range of philanthropic causes through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which focuses on improving healthcare and reducing extreme poverty around the world.
Personal Life:
Gates was born in Washington, in 1955. His father’s name was Bill Gates sr. His father in addition to founding the Seattle King County and Washington State Bar organizations also served as president of Shidler McBroom & Gates, a business that later became K&L Gates. and his mother’s name was Mary Maxwell who served for 18 years as a regent on the board of the University of Washington, in addition to serving on the boards of other significant organizations, such as the First Interstate Bank, Unigard Security Insurance Group, and Pacific Northwest Bell. Bill Gates married Malinda French in 1994 and he has 3 children.
He showed an early interest in computer programming, and by the age of 13, he had written a version of tic-tac-toe for the General Electric computer system. In 1973, Gates enrolled at Harvard University, where he studied computer science and mathematics, but he dropped out after two years to start Microsoft with Allen.
Beginning of Career:
In the early days of the company, Gates personally wrote code for the company’s first products, including the successful Altair Basic and Microsoft Basic programming languages. With the success of these products, Microsoft quickly became one of the leading software companies in the world.
In 1985, Microsoft released Windows, an operating system for personal computers, which became a huge commercial success. The company continued to release new versions of Windows, and it became the most widely used operating system in the world. With the success of Microsoft, Gates became one of the wealthiest people in the world. He has been consistently ranked among the world’s wealthiest people by Forbes magazine, and at one point, he was the wealthiest person in the world. Gates has also been involved in many philanthropic efforts throughout his career.
In 2000, he and his wife, Melinda, founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which focuses on improving healthcare and reducing extreme poverty around the world. Through the foundation, they have donated billions of dollars to causes such as fighting diseases such as HIV, malaria, and polio. They also actively support and funding for education, access to clean water and sanitation, and agricultural development, focusing on improving the lives of the most marginalized communities around the world.
In recent years, Gates has stepped away from his day-to-day role at Microsoft to focus on philanthropy full-time. However, he remains a technology advisor to the company and still sits on the board of directors.
